Sardinia, home to the luxurious Forte Village Resort, is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It sits between the west of Italy and south of France. With its pleasant climate, mountainous outline and spectacular coastlines, Sardinia has become a popular holiday destination for visitors around the world.
Being an island town, Sardinia can only be accessed directly by a ferry or via an airport. There are three airports in Sardinia, which are all served by major airlines from national and international destinations- especially UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Spain, Israel, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, Portugal, and Switzerland.
The airports – Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero, are well connected by public transport and are close to the towns they serve. Operations at all three airports are generally functional, so travellers may not have the same extensive variety of shops and restaurants that they may be used to in airports in major destinations like London, Paris or Frankfurt.
Also known as Fertilia Airport, Alghero Airport is sited about five miles to the northwest of the city of Alghero. You can access it by car through the SP44 and SS291 motorways. You can also get to the airport through shuttle buses that service the route between Alghero and other main cities on the island to the airport.
The airport facilities include:
Sited at nearly four kilometres outside the heart of the town, Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport can be accessed easily by car from the SS125 and SS127 motorways. You can also get to the airport with shuttle buses that link Olbia with other major tourist locations.
Facilities at the airport include:
Cagliari Elmas Airport is the biggest airport in Sardinia and is four miles from the centre. The airport has a new and renovated look- having been recently expanded with modern and top class facilities and services which are available to travellers using the airport.
Notably, although located in mainland Italy, Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia which is region of the country. The airport in Cagliari is just 7 kilometres away from the city centre, which is the main city of Sardinia.
The town boasts an efficient transport network, and with the short distances between key points and towns, Cagliari is quickly and easily accessible from any part of the resort island at The Forte Village.
